The modern day necktie has existed
in its present form since the 1920’s. Before this
time ties were tailored in the direction of cutting
the cloth, and the lining was made from various fabrics.
Early in the 1920’s, Jessie
Langsdorf from New York designed a cloth for neckties,
cut on the 45° bias, divided into three separate
pieces, and then sewn up. He patented this innovation
and later sold the invention all over the world.
